Sometimes we are able to do an internal chimney inspection (above and beyond the scope of a home inspection) as part of our standard inspection.  This chimney has severely and intentionally misaligned chimney flues, and the exterior brickwork and mortar is basically coming undone.  These flues will NOT contain combustion gasses as required.  The flashing is smeared with tar and had and will be leaking into the attic and garage ceiling.  Sorry- the chimney has to come down to roof or below and rebuilt at major (significant) expense.
